What else can I say but WOW! The Engraved Powder Horn is the best powder horn book ever produced. Great full color photographs of over 100 original horns, overall and detail shots of each horn, and excellent descriptions make this a book invaluable to the collector, historian or 18th century artisan.
The wide format (9"X12") allows each horn to be presented in a near life-size, full-length view. Many horns are shown in full-length views of two sides. In addition there are detail photos of many of the more interesting features on the horns. You can and will spend hours reveling in the glorious photos by David Wesbrook showing the artistry and ingenuity of the 18th century horn makers.
The description of each horn includes the name of the carver, the location and date the horn was made, inscriptions, overall length, type of butt plug, tip or spout, carvings, additional data, a bibliography if it has been previously published, and the present owner.
Thanks to the efforts of those involved, this is a first-rate book. Credit goes not only to author Jim Dresslar and photographer David Wesbrook, but also to Sharon Cunningham, editor, and David Wright, designer. Being in the publishing business, I know the costs of producing a book of this quality, and I'm here to tell you that even at $95.00 this may be the best book buy you'll ever make on a new release.
